I read about the haenyeo a few years ago and I know about the docu but haven’t watched it yet. Now I really want to! I love water! I’ve swum in the ocean, lakes, and played in creeks. I don’t much care for pools, though, unless I could have one of my own.
In a somewhat related theme, I watched a sweet movie a few days ago that you might like, set on the Irish coast. I assume it’s based on an Irish folk tale but whatever, it was magical and a sweet 2 hour watch. The Secret of Roan Inish. https://www.imdb.com/video/vi452591897/?ref_=tt_vids_vi_t_1
Oh, Charlotte, yes! I forgot about that movie! I haven't seen it in years but I remember it being very charming. Time for a rewatch!
I didn't know anythingabout the haenyeo before that documentary, but now I want to read all about them. I think you'll love the doc. The water shots are beautiful and it is so, so inspiring :)
I really wish I loved the water. I can’t stand it but I also think if I had a clear lake that wasn’t freezing or deep I’d love it. My impression of natural water is always marred by seaweed or sea life touching my body and it freaks me out. Cold temps do as do waves. Still I love watching how water impacts people I love who love it!
This made me laugh out loud 🤣 The being brushed by sea life part is definitely not my favorite. And I have had my fair share of crabs pinching my feet… but there is something to be said for watching from the shore, like you said. There’s a unique joy in watching joy in others, especially when the joy comes from a good swim. So I hear you on that one!
I’ve been reading The Summer Book. It’s so, so good. 🙌
Right?! It’s THE BEST. 🙌
Only reading one or two chapters at a time to savor it! 🙌🙌
