Shiny Happy Substack
Welcome to S W E L L S P O K E N, my brand new newsletter about what I'm reading, watching, and obsessing over. A little nostalgia. A little right now. A whole lot of nerding out.
You probably don’t remember me but…
Here’s a quick refresher:
I love old-timey things like postage stamps and birds! I'm a big fan of television and travel, and I've never met a list I didn't want to tick off. Not, like, annoy, but, like, complete. I've been keeping a notebook of every single thing I've read since middle school, so reading is a hobby and an OCD enabler! I briefly wrote a recurring blog post for a popular beer enthusiast website, though I'm allergic to beer (boo celiac disease!) and I took sketch comedy writing classes at NYC's famed Magnet Improv Theatre. I know what you're thinking. Yes, and... what else do we need to learn about you?
I'm bad at math, great at obsessing. Wheat is my enemy and stories are my love language. My ideal job would be "book sommelier" because it would allow me to foist novels I love into other people's hands. This job actually might be called librarian? I need to look into that...
I live in New Jersey with my family. I just completed my first novel, a YA romp which is currently on submission with my fabulous agent. I have published in more than three dozen outlets, and I work as a writing instructor/mentor/tutor with teen and adult writers.
I’m just happy to be here.
And I’m telling you all this about me… why?
Because I’m launching a newsletter! You can subscribe to it! Read it! Delete it! Read it AND delete it!
You’ll get posts about the things I’m currently fangirling over, plus the things I fangirled over in the 1990s (Here’s looking at you, Sassy magazine!). You’ll also get links to my latest stories and updates on my publication news. A writer’s gotta write, y’all.
Why should you subscribe?
Because it’s free and a very low-key way to tell me, hey, I like your writing. You can even share the newsletter with your friends and family. The more the merrier! I hope you’ll join me on this new Substack adventure.
